"These stones commemorate Gillean Maclaine, natural son of John Maclaine, 17th of Lochbuy, who died at Scallastle House in 1788, and his wife Maria, daughter of Lachlan McQuarrie, 16th of Ulva. They were erected at Scallastle in 1833 by his natural son Lachlan MacLean, and moved to their present position in 1872."
