Ulster Historical Foundation
Since 1990 the Foundation has been compiling a major computerized archive of Irish genealogical records, such as church and civil records, baptisms/births and marriages (for counties Antrim and Down) plus gravestone inscriptions for most of Northern Ireland. The database also includes records for the whole of Ireland. For example, it includes muster rolls 1640, Hearth Money Rolls 1660s, lists of Protestant householders 1740, Irish Will Calendars 1858-1900 and 1796 Flax Growers List of 55,000 names of small farmers for the whole of Ireland. Recently, the Surname Index of farmers c. 1830 and property occupiers in Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 has been added. It also includes a computerized index to the 10,000+ searches that UHF has carried out on Irish families since 1956 plus the facility for on-the-spot search assessments that can be extracted from a new system on Irish genealogy.
In addition to the lectures, those attending UHF workshops are offered one-to-one consultations before or after the meeting that can include a prepared written assessment on the feasibility of research. The research assessment service is available only for those attending the seminar for the discounted fee of $30 (payable to BIGRA). Email MaryRussell29@aol.com for the questionnaire.
