hi im trying to find the parentage of stephen pilcher born 1797 in eastry kent ,he was my great great great grandfather ,i have birth info that says his mother was mary petley but it does nt say who his father is ,would he have been given his fathers surname if his mother was nt married
i can also find no marriage info for mary petley either not to anyone called pilcher ,this is stopping me going any futher back in my tree ,if anyone could help i be really grateful
