I am trying to locate relatives of George Nixon, who served with the Lancashire Volunteer Artillery.
I managed to locate a photo of Nixon in the Lancaster Observer and Morcombe Chronicle for Friday December 1st 1916. This article confirms that Nixon served in South Africa during the Boer war with the 15th imperial Yeomanry. The Lancashire Vol Artillery provided one officer and 14 men to the 15th IY as a Colt gun section, including George Nixon, who at the time resided 49 Prospect Street Lancaster with his wife, Alice and their daughter Margaret Elizabeth.
Copy service papers for both the Boer War and WW1 have survived. Nixon originally enlisted with the5th Lancashire Volunteer Artillery on 21st February 1895 and was not finally discharged until 31st March 1920. He was wounded in France on 24th August 1917 and sent back to the UK. Look
If anyone has any information on this man, or other members of the Lancashire Volunteer Artillery, I would be pleased to hear from them.
