I'm trying to trace the Dorset origins of a Joseph Hoffe (or Hoff; b.c1797) who, according to a family Bible owned by his great grandson, states "Joseph Hoffe arrived from England to the firm of Garland Brothers, Greenspond, Bonavista Bay later left and came to Gander Bay and carried out an extensive salmon business at Salt Island at the mouth of the Gander River."
As the Garlands were noteable fish merchants of Poole during the early 1800s, I'm wondering if there are any commercial records linking Joseph Hoffe to the Garlands??? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
