I am looking for information concerning my ggg grandfather Joseph Lewis who may have been born in or around Swansea around 1770. I assume he emigrated to the United States or Canada. He died in the state of Ohio in 1807 and left a wife and four children (one had died). He was a tavernkeeper.
I have no other information other than my father said his original ancestor left from Swansea although he did not know if he had lived there. I assume he would have traveled to the United States or Canada by ship from Bristol.
I would appreciate any information or suggestions for research. I plan to visit Wales this summer.
