Aberdeen Wales?

I found a naturalization record record for my great-grandfather, Edward Murray, that cites Aberdeen Wales as his place of birth in 1863. Is/was there an Aberdeen Wales or should I be looking in Scotland? He lists himself as both Welsh and Irish on the US census and I can't find any leads about his family.

Is it possible that he came from Australia? There is an Aberdeen New South Wales. A possibility that should be looked into.
