McKinley or McKinlay

I am researching my grgrgrgrandfather. His name was John J McKinley (americanized?) Born in Glasgow, Scotland
around 1824. Immigrated to the USA when he was around 16 ? ( So his obituary says.) According to the Bible that we have there were 2 brothers? or 2 sons? born in Glasgow also. There names are John McKinley born Jan 12, 1843 and James McKinley born February 2, 1845. Bible has them listed as dying on the same day Nov 22 1858 Glasgow or the United States. We don't know. The elder John Mckinley finally settled in Erie, Erie, Pennsylvania, USA and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad until he died in February 1899. We do not know which county he was from or who his parents were.. We can not find any ship records with his name. We do know from the Obituary that he worked in New York City for the company that built the 1st HOE printing press in America. Then worked for the Baldwin locomotive Co. and then the Railroad as a blacksmith. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Carol Dowling
