I think that the James David Williams you mention was probably the son of David Williams and Elisabeth Mestin and was born in Brechin, County of Angus on 23 Jan. 1759.

The James David Williams mentioned is a fictitious character, which is why you can't find any information on him. The patriarch of this Williams family of Rutherford County, Tennessee is William Williams. You can find the accounting of his estate sale, dated 15 September 1834, in Rutherford County, Tennessee, Record Book 9, Page 165. Among the persons listed as buyers at the estate sale are William Williams, Jr., Enoch Williams, and James G. Williams, as well as what are probably a couple of son-in-laws. One Thomas Smotherman is also listed.
