Trying to find any information about my GG Grandfather FRANCIS DAVIDSON FORREST on the 1881 census he is a widower living in Whitby, N.Yorks with 3 of his daughters, his occupation is given as Master Mariner born in NORTHUMBERLAND, no locaton is given within that county, I estimate he would have been born about 1823, I know so little about this man with such an unusual name, any help appreciated

I wondered if your Francis could have been connected with any of these two families, connected to shipping. In the Pigot's 1834 Directory of Northumberland and Durham, there were two FORRESTs:-
Matthew FORREST, Ship Owner, 32 Ropery Bank, North Shields, NBL
William FORREST, Ship Owner, 9 Academy Hill, South Shields, DUR
