We have a hunch that our Stamp & Stamper families in the Solway Plain and Keswick areas may possibly have a connection with the German copper miners invited over here by Elizabeth I in the 1500s. Our research has taken us back to Ambrose Stamp/Stamper of Boltongate who died in 1588/9 (will). I've managed to find two or three web-sites giving general information about mining in Cumbria and have now got quite a lot of background on the Coniston and Borrowdale mining operations. I would like to know if anyone else is researching something similar or if anyone knows of a name list for these German immigrants?
Be grateful for any information.
Cheers
