Searching for details of Mary Alison who married in about 1739/1740. May have been born in Cumberland but this is not known for certain, could have been Scotland. Alison may have been her maiden name, but is possibly her married name. These initials and date 1739 carved on the front of a Kist said to have been made for her by her betrothed. Other family stories are that she was a village dressmaker and married the Squire's son who was disinherited in consequence, and that there may be some connection to Sir Walter Scott. Other surnames in the heading are known descendants, but with a possible generation gap between ALISON and NOBLE. Mary ALISON may be the Grandmother of Esther Mary NOBLE (born Penrith 1830. Any information at all will be much appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation. Thelma
Does Ann Scott b. abt 1770-80 m. Thomas Priestman, emigrated to US & then Canada c. 1811 sound like it is a connection to your Scott?
