I am searching for more info on my great grandparents, Isaac Grainger born 1848ish and Sarah Mcclelland born around same time. I have wedding certificate for wedding in Carlisle in 1872 and by mid 1870's they were in Newcastle upon Tyne and am o.k. from then on.In 1881 census she was born in Scotland, I know that to be true. He is also said to be born in Scotland, but I suspect Cumbria is more likely.. He was a postman in Carlisle and his father a William Grainger -a deceased quarryman by 1872.
Are there quarries near Carlisle? I have searched most avenues.
Any Grainger info would be welcome.
I have found several other Cumbrian Isaac Graingers and none in Scotland.
Any ideas?
