I am still trying to find anyone who has any knowledge of the Mcleans who lived in Nairn in the 18th century. Allan McLean and his wife, Mary Cummings from Kirkhill, left for Canada in 1784. With them went Mary's father, James Cummings, and his wife and tee-age children. They left behind Catherine, married to William Campbell. Allan McLean lived in the Annapolis Valley for two years, then moved across the Bay of Fundy to St. Martin's, where he was instrumental in the burgeoning shipbuilding industry. If there is anyone out there who can tell me what a McLean was doing in Nairn at the same time as the Battle of Culloden was fought, I would be very grateful. It might be important to note that bothe the McLeans and Cummings families were English-speaking and had money when they arrived in Nova Scotia,
